Dr Jeremy Woodward joined the EMU in October 2019, he is a Chief Technical Officer in Bioscience microscopy.
The AKCIA welcomed 20 people to an interactive workshop on Electron Beam Lithography featuring the Tescan Advanced MIRA3 SEM.
In April 2018, Michael visited the Tescan factory in Brno, Czech Republic.
Miranda attended the WiTec Raman Academy in Ulm, Germany, in April.
The University of Cape Town has a world-class visualization and analysis centre built largely around electron microscopy to serve the needs of all disciplines. The centre offers a large and versatile range of instruments and techniques serving the needs of Engineering, Biological, Earth and Physical Sciences and Medicine.
The South African Spectroscopic Society hosted a RAMAN workshop, on 27-28 November 2017 in Stellenbosch
Miranda and Innocent attended the workshop, the first day was a series of presentations from Industry, highlighting new technology. The second day concentrated more on scientific applications of Raman and included presentations from UCT, Wits, Fort Hare, UJ and UP. The keynote speaker was Prof Howell Edwards from the University of Bradford who gave two fascinating talks, the first about the part Raman will play in the search for life on Mars, his second talk was about the application of Raman to art and archaeology.
This year the Electron Microscope Unit of the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University hosted the 55th Annual Congress of the Microscopy Society of Southern Africa (MSSA 2017). The conference took place at the Conference Centre of Warmbaths, A Forever Resort (Bela-Bela) from 04-07 December 2017.
